Common Napster Problems and How to Resolve Them Easily

For the most part, you can expect smooth sailing when you log onto your Napster music account. But in those rare occasions when you encounter a snag or two, here are some tips on how to resolve the most common Napster problems.

Problem #1: You forgot your password. This common is not unique to Napster. You can encounter this problem on almost any site where you have to log in using a unique user name and password. Luckily, Napster has you covered on this front. To recover your Napster password, go ahead and launch Napster from your desktop to open the sign in dialog window. Click on the link labeled “Can’t remember your password?” Then, type in your email address and click submit. This email must be the same email that you have previously registered on Napster. Once your email address is confirmed, Napster will send you your Napster user name and password.

Problem # 2: You can’t seem to sign in to Napster, even if you are sure you entered the correct user name and password. Here are some things you should check if you are having trouble signing in, despite entering the right user name and password. First, check your browser security level. If your browser security level is set to high, this may prevent you from signing in to Napster, and may also cause problems with using the Napster application, even if you do manage to sign in. Just in case, lower your browser security level to medium to make sure it does not interfere with your Napster application. Other problems that could cause you to have trouble signing in include firewalls. If you are working with a computer that has firewalls installed, make sure that they are allowing communication from the Napster domain to go in and out. To make sure that the firewall is letting Napster in, check to make sure that ports 80, 443, and 1755 remain open. Another possibility: ad-blocking software. Make sure that any ad-blocking software you have installed on your PC is not blocking your access to Napster.

Problem #3: Problems with your Internet browser. You must be using the correct Internet browser in order to successfully use Napster. If you are not using a Napster-compatible Internet browser, you may have trouble accessing the site correctly. First, make sure that your Internet connection is working. If your Internet connection seems fine, check your Internet Explorer settings. Select Internet options from the Tools drop down menu. Select the Connections tab and make sure the information is correct. If you know that you are using a proxy server, check your LAN Settings. Finally, go to the Advanced Tab. Scroll down to the section labeled Security and make sure that the box labeled Use SSL 2.0 is checked. Hopefully, adjusting your Internet browser settings correctly will give you clear access to Napster.

Problem #4: You have a hard disk failure and you can no longer located some or all of your music files. To restore your Napster music library after a hard disk failure of some kind, simply go to the Copy Library feature. Use the Copy Library feature to re-download your tracks onto your hard disk, or to make copies of the files on another PC. You can store your favorite Napster tracks on up to three different computers. Simply sign into your Napster account, select the Copy Library option, and follow all the Napster prompts to move part of your collection to another PC, or to restore songs to your Napster library that you may have lost after a hard disk failure.
